Only 23
kilometres from Phuket is Racha Island with
its beautiful scenery, natural surroundings, crystal
clear waters and empty beaches. Go swimming, snorkelling,
scuba diving, or just lie in the sun and enjoy the peace.
Enjoy
nature walks through coconut plantations, and
see water buffaloes in their natural surroundings. See
how the local people are still living as they did a
hundred years ago, growing mangoes, jackfruit, tamarind,
cashew nuts and going out to the sea for fishing. The
local people are shy, but very friendly and helpful.
They don't mind being photographed, in fact they consider
it to be an honour that you care about them.
During the green season (from April to
September) Ban Raya bays are one of the only places in
the Phuket region where the waters remain calm and scuba
diving is fantastic. Around these bays there are several
moorings available for visiting boats.
Racha Island is a great place for children
also with it's shallow beaches and calm bays without currents |
